Forty-Seven Ronin, Yalta conference, Luís de Camões

On the 4th of february –

In the year 1703 forty-six of the Forty-Seven Ronin were made to commit seppuku (ritual suicide) as a retalliation for the murder of Kira Yoshinaka, the man that was responsible for the deah of their leader. The story is a Japanese classic, and was depicted in many, many ways. Europeana holds about 47 of these prints

The Yalta conference between Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin opens in the year 1945. This conference shaped the borders and power distribution in Europe over the next 50 years. I include it here especially for my colleague Jacob, who loves it as an example of ‘event-based metadata’.
