Bernadotte King of Sweden, Lenin, Kemal Atatürk

On the 5th of February –

In 1818 French general Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte ascends the thrones of both Sweden and Norway. His descendants still cut the ribbons in Sweden. Those were the days, when an aspiring general could acquire his own kingdom – and get to keep it.

The 5th of February was a great day for the separation of Religion and State:
In 1918 the People’s Commisariat in Russia declared a strict separation of Church and State, and at the same time a separation of Church and School.

In 1937 the Six Principles of Kemalism became a part of the Turkish constitution. To this day, Turkey is the most ‘religion-free’ (as in freedom from religion, not freedom of religion) of the islamic states.
