Valentine’s Day

On the 14th of February –

it is Valentine’s Day. Interesing enough, no one actually knows which of the 14 (!) Saint Valentines (or Saints Valentine) is the one whose day we celebrate today. All were early Christian martyrs to the faith. How they became associated with this day that is about romatic love is also uncertain, and may be associated with Chaucer’s Parlement of Foules, which contains the fiorst reference of this day having a special meaning for lovers.

Here are a few of the Saints Valentine:
initiale historiée ; Saint Valentin ; bordure intérieure ; initiale ornée ; pied-de-mouche
Légendier
Missel romain
