Columbus, Monte Cassino, Michael Preatorius

On the 15th of February –

In 1493 Christopher Columbus started to write his ‘Open Letter on the First Voyage‘ while still on the home stretch from his trip to what he thought was India, but was in fact the Caribbean island of Samana Cay.

In 1571 German organist and composer Michael Preatorius is born. His most famous ditty is without a doubt the Christmas classic ‘Es ist ein Ros’ entsprungen’:
