Life and Death: Watson and Crick, Guillotine

On the 25th of April –

Watson and Crick describe ‘the secret of life’ – the structure of DNA – in 1953 in an article in Nature.

The discovery also opened up hopes that extinct species could be revived if we manage to find a pieve of their DNA – however that is still a long way off:

In 1792 the first execution by Guillotine took place. Contrary to public belief, the Guillotine was not invented for political purposes, but rather to ‘humanize’ the method of execution. The first victim was a highwayman (armed robber) named Nicolas J. Pelletier.
