Rainbow Warrior, Karl Millöcker, Thomas Beecham

The Rainbow Warrior, the ship of environmentalist group Greenpeace is commissioned in 1978 in Amsterdam. It remained in action until it was sunk in the harbour of Wellington in 1985 by the French secret service – a ‘James Bond’ that took his ‘license to kill’ too seriously.

Austrian operetta composer and conductor Karl Millöcker is born in 1843:
