Peter Minuit, Cornwall Railway, Cristofori

On the 4th of May –

Peter Minuit, a Walloon ”director-general” in the employ of the Dutch West-India Company arrives in Manhattan in 1626; later he bought the island from the local inabitants, and the settlement of Nieuw Amsterdam was established there.

The great British engineer Brunel built the Royal Albert Bridge, linking the UK counties of Devon and Cornwall across the Tamar river. The Cornwall Railway using this bridge was opened on this day in 1859.
