National Gallery, Jacques Cartier, August Horch

On the 10th of May –

In 1824 the National Gallery (Gallery in the sense of a Museum of Art) was opened in London. In 1836 an extension was already needed:
PLAN Of the Site of the National Gallery andamp; c. Prepared, according to the Order of the Committee on the Arts of Design, to illustrate the Evidence of MR WILKINS.
Very soon the National Gallery building became an iconic London landmark – as are the Lions in Trafalgar Square directly opposite:

In 1534 Jacques Cartier lands on Canadian soil and claims the land for the French Crown. He is convinced that he has reached an asian shore.

German car manufacturer August Horch moves his company from Reichenbach to Zwickau. His company later morphed into Audi.

    I plan on seeing the Da Vinci collection at the National Gallery at the end of the year, looking forward to it!
