First Rack Railway in Europe: Rigi-Bahnen

On the 21st of May –

In 1871 the first Rack Railway, (tandradbaan, Zahnradbahn) on the continent of Europe officially opened: the Rigi-Bahnen. This railway is quite well-documented in Europeana:
