Maximilian I of Mexico

On the 19th of June –

IN 1867 the import-emperor Maximilian I of Mexico is executed after a court martial, along with Generals Miramón and Mejía. Although many of the governments of Europe and the Americas sent telegrams to plead for his life, the execution was carried out as a signal that Mexico would not accept any government imposed by foreign powers.
