Potsdam conference

On the 16th of July –

The three allied leaders Churchill (later replaced by Attlee) (UK), Truman (USA) and Stalin (USSR) gathered in Potsdam for a conference. This more or less confirmed the outcomes of the Yalta conference, but was more informed by the actual outcome of the ‘march on Berlin’: the Russians, having occupied Berlin, had no intention or reason to pull out for the foreseeable future. It would take until 1989 until Russian occupation of the Eastern European countries would cease.
