Ingeborg, Queen of France, dies

On the 30th of July –

Ingeborg of Denmark, Queen of France dies in 1236. She is later canonized (made into a Saint) and 30th of July is ‘her’ day. She had a miserable life, even thouhgh she was the queen of France. In spite of her reputed beauty, the French King Phillip II Augustus was not able to perform his marital duties, and blamed her for that. He tried to get the marriage annulled, took a mistress, and locked Ingeborg up under appalling conditions to get her to agree to a divorce.
One of the things she is remembered for is a very nice Psalterium that she commissioned – and we have quite a few leaves from that in Europeana:
Psautier d'Ingeburge de Danemark, reine de France
Psautier d'Ingeburge de Danemark, reine de France

Here are all the images from the Psalterium of ‘Ingeburge de Danemark’ that we have in Europeana.
