Battle of Petrovaradin

On the 5th of August –

In 1716 Prince Eugene of Savoy, leading the Austrian Army, defeated the Ottoman Turks at the battle of Petrovaradin (now part of Novi Sad in Serbia).

This was not the first battle for the strategic position of Petrovaradin:

    Petrovaradinska Tvrdjava (or Petrovaradin Fortress) today is a famous tourist attraction of Novi Sad and home to one of the biggest music festivals in Europe – EXIT. Every time I visit Serbia I make time to visit this lovely town of my student days.
