Thoreau publishes Walden

On the 9th of August –

in 1854 David Henry Thoreau published “Walden, or, Life in the Woods“, an account of his attempts over two years to live a simple life in nature, dedicated to contemplation and writing poetry.

Walden.

This particular copy in Europeana comes from the Library of Congress, courtesy of the BHL-Europe project. This makes me curious about two things: how is ‘Walden’ relevant for Biodiversity, and how is it related to European Cultural Heritage? Don’t get me wrong – I love that we have such great works of art, in such great scan quality, available. I just wonder sometimes if we are still ‘on message’?
