On the 12th of August –

The IBM 5150, the first personal computer, came on the market in 1981 – today

30 years ago

IBM Personal Computer

It had one or two 5.25 Inch floppy drives (no harddisk), a maximum of 256 kB of internal memory of which 64 kB was on the motherboard, and it ran PC-DOS as operating system. The decision by Bill Gates and Paul Allen to license, rather than sell, that operating system (later called MS-DOS) to IBM made their (Microsoft’s) fortune, and created a whole industry.
