Jan Gruter is born

On the 3rd of December –

In 1560 Dutch scholar and librarian Jan Gruter (lat. Janus Gruterus) is born in Antwerp. He studied and worked in Cambridge, Leyden, Wittemberg, Rostock, Heidelberg . His most famous works are Inscriptiones antiquae totius orbis Romani (2 vols., Heidelberg, 1603), and Lampas, sive fax artium liberalium (7 vols., Frankfort, 1602–1634).
