About Europeana

Europeana is a European Commission initiative to make the digitised cultural heritage of Europe more accessible. We do that by

aggregating (collecting) the metadata (‘catalogue records’) for all digitised objects in Europe’s libraries, museums, archives and audio-visual repositories into a single database
distributing the information we gather through the portal www.europeana.eu, through APIs and hopefully soon through the publication of Linked Open Data
facilitating the cultural heritage sector in the digitisation processes through knowledge sharing, creating open source software to help their processes, clarifying rights issues etc
engaging the end-user, the culturally interested individual, the high school teacher and her pupil, the academic researcher and her students, etc. etc. by providing means to interact with and reuse the content
